Description
You are bidding on a SUPERB and VERY RARE example of a WW2 German Luftwaffe Mutterkompass (Master/Mother Compass), Fl. 23331 AND Grundplatte (Mount) 8-189.135-0701!Though this type of compass was used on MANY German aircraft, such as the Me109, Fw190, Me262, Ju88, Ju87, Me-110…this was SPECIFICALLY removed from a late-war Fw190 by a US Serviceman!
This compass was the main navigation device used by German aircraft. It was usually positioned in the rear fuselage of the aircraft, and sent a signal to the smaller, "Fuhrertochterkompass", which was located on the pilot's control panel. These two instruments would work together to indicate the aircraft's heading to the pilot. It was used on almost all Fighters, Bombers, and Jets.
Made of aluminum, steel, and bakelite, this Mutterkompass and Mount are in SUPERB used condition!
Removed from a Fw190, they both
still retains 95% of it's original paint and finish, with NO damage or corrosion!
All springs and wiring are intact, and the data label is 100% clear and easy to read.
It is still mounted to the
original bakelite support, that has the clear part number, "8-189.135-0701.
I have indicated its exact location in the Fw190 in the last photo. Would make a FANTASTIC addition to any collection, display, or restoration project!

------------------- ABOUT ME -----------------
Although my passion is the Me109, I do offer many other German Aircraft (Fw190, Me262, etc.), as well as USAF and Japanese items. Occasionally I do offer many non-vintage items such as prints and art relating to the time period. As a private collector myself, I am constantly on the lookout for historical memorabilia, authentic photographs, artwork or anything unique relating to military aircraft.
