WW2 German Metal Aluminium Canteen W/Marks On Cover/Canteen

Found in Maine…a WW2 German Metal Aluminium Canteen W/Marks On felt Cover/Canteen.. not sure what caused the damage… (maybe combat???)…. I’m not sure though, nor can I verify that guess!! There are several dents too.
The felt cover does snap still, the leather harness shows age damage/wear. The lid threads may be stripped, for I couldn’t seem to screw the lid down tight.. maybe I needed to press it down more, but I didn’t want to force it.
There are a few marks/numbers/ letters on it.
Strictly sold AS IS.. wish I knew more of this history behind it!
