    Description

The iconic Luger pistol had its roots in the C93 Borchardt, the first commercially viable self-loading (automatic) pistol. Hugo Borchardt refused to make changes to the design, leading its manufacturer and the owner of the patents, DWM, to task employee Georg Luger with making the necessary improvements. Luger did away with the awkward flat leaf spring assembly and vertical grip of the Borchardt, kept the short recoil toggle action, and gave it an angled grip. The resulting "Pistole Parabellum" was one of the most successful handguns ever produced, with some 3 million Lugers made from 1900-1945, and adopted by militaries from the hardy Swiss to the powerful German forces in both world wars. The Luger has been of great interest to collectors for decades, leading Dr. Geoffrey Sturgess and Joachim Görtz to write an exhaustive three volume reference book set on the subject in 2010. This "PISTOLE PARABELLUM" GERMAN WW1 WW2 P-08 LUGER 3 VOLUME REFERENCE BOOK SET is in very good, unread condition, with moderate denting to the bottom back left corner of the slipcase, some denting to the bottom left corner of the front cover of Volume 3, some scattered denting to the top left front and back corners of the covers of all three Volumes, and with some scattered storage wear evident (ALL pictured). Otherwise, the set is in fine shape, with no other damage. Most interestingly, it boasts a strikingly illustrated slipcase, sports elegant pebbled green leather hardcovers with embossed "GL" (for Georg Luger) monogram at each middle front, along with the authors' names, the volume number, and "Pistole Parabellum" in gold leaf down the spine, and features 1,895 pages full of descriptive text, period pictures, and color photographs of C93 Borchardts, Borchardt-Luger transitionals, 1899 Luger prototypes, early Swiss pattern Lugers, P-04 German Navy Lugers, lP.08 "lange" Artillery Lugers with long barrels, tangent sights, shoulder stocks/wooden holsters, and snail drum mags, German Army P.08s, Lugers for Persian, Siamese, Portuguese, Bulgarian, Russian, and Dutch contracts, American imported Lugers produced specifically for A.F. Stoeger of New York, incredible details on grips, finishes, actions, sights, markings, crests, serial numbers, barrels, manuals, leather ammo pouches and holsters, wooden dummies, mags, snail drum loaders, screwdrivers, pistol cases and cased sets, sub-caliber training devices, and ammo, and a plethora of other invaluable information.
